3 Hair Tips for Curly Girls

Say no to friction

Friction, or rubbing and pressure, can occur in a number of ways, from your pillow at night to the hat you wear, and even to the headrest of your office chair or car seat! The back and forth rub of rough textiles is harsh on your hair strands and can result in damaged and frizzy hair. Your best protection is to minimize friction by using smooth, silky fabrics as a barrier. For instance, sleep on a silk pillowcase or use a silk kerchief to protect your hair while you sleep. You can also have silk linings sewn into your hats, or DIY if you’re handy with a needle and thread.

Say yes to moisture

Curly hair is less structurally sound than straight hair, and when dry, is more susceptible to breakage. To retain your length and protect fragile strands, condition your hair regularly using a good conditioner. At Levell’s Salon, we carry high quality Design Essential products; just ask your stylist for help choosing the right products for your hair.

Ditch your brush for something better

Brushes are not designed for tight curl types, but picks are! Start using a pick to gently separate your ringlets, rather than a brush which separates each strand and causes frizz.
