Prepare Your Hair for Summer
Sure, technically it’s still spring here in Atlanta, but step outside and it becomes apparent that summer has arrived. Here at Levell’s Salon in Marietta, we want to help you nurture and care for your hair, so read on for some salon tips on protecting your hair from sand, salt, sun, heat, and chlorine this summer.
Hydrate and moisturize hair
Most of us spend more time outdoors in the spring and summer, and that means your hair will be exposed to Georgia heat. Whether you are swimming in a rooftop pool in Atlanta or in the ocean at St. Simons, the chlorine or salt is sure to dry your hair out. Be proactive and start giving your hair some extra moisture now. Drink lots of water and consider a deep conditioning treatment in addition to your usual moisturizing and conditioning routine.
Use sun protection
You put sunscreen on your skin to protect it from UV rays, so why wouldn’t you protect your hair? If you are planning to be out in bright sun for extended amounts of time, protect your hair by wearing a hat. You can also minimize UV damage by staying in the shade or wearing a scarf.
Give your hair a break from heat styling. Georgia summers are hot enough without subjecting your tresses to the flat iron and blow dryer.
Protect your hair from chlorine and salt when swimming by conditioning your hair first. Your hair will soak up the conditioner and not have as much room to soak up the salt or chlorine. After swimming, never let salt or chlorine sit in your hair. Rinse with cool water at the very least.
